Background

MedicDAT GmbH was founded on the 3rd of November 1999 in Regensburg as a spin-off of the University Hospital of Regensburg by Dr. med. Michael Reng and Dr.-Ing. Dipl.-Inf. Athanassios Tsakpinis.

MedicDAT GmbH arose from two major projects of the German federal ministery of science and education:

  • MedicDAT
    Media interface for the content based linkage of documents, abstracts and textbooks
    1998 - 2004, grant 9.2 Mio€
    Cooperation: Springer Publishers Heidelberg, Urban&Fischer Publishers Munich, GSD Berlin
  • MedicMED
    Multimedia education: internet campus medicine
    2000 - 2003, grant 3.6 Mio€
    Cooperation: University Witten-Herdecke

MedicDAT GmbH and its memorandum of association is registered at the county court of Regensburg (HRB 7585), office and technical facilities are situated at the Universitiy Hospital of Regensburg.

Aim of MedicDAT GmbH is to

  • transfer developed and evaluated technologies and respectively know how into commercial applications
  • keep technology and know how in the field of medical informatics up to date and available for the MedicDAT team, the University Hospital of Regensburg and MedicDAT customers
  • plough back profits into scientifically focussed development of medical informatics
